1. You must report the Accident to the Police immediately
If either party is injured, you are required to inform the Police. Call a nearby police station or the Police Assistance line on 133 444. Remember to obtain an event number.
Failing to take this step may affect your rights to compensation at a later date.
2. Consult your doctor
Ensure you speak to your doctor as soon as possible after the accident. Report all your symptoms, no matter how minor they seem at the time.
This will assist your road to recovery and avoid disputes about your injuries with the insurer.
3. Lodge an Accident Notification Form within 28 days
Regardless of whether or not you were at fault, you may be entitled to up to $5,000 in compensation for treatment expenses and economic loss during the six months following the accident.

4. Speak to a Personal Injury Lawyer about your rights to compensation

5. Lodge a Personal Injury Claim Form within 6 months
If you were injured in a car accident that was not your fault, you must lodge a Personal Injury Claim form within 6 months of the date of accident to protect your compensation rights.

It must be lodged with the CTP insurer of the vehicle at fault. If there were multiple vehicles involved in the accident and you are unsure which one was at fault, you may need to lodge separate claim forms against each.
